After accepting a new position at a different company, it is common courtesy to send a resignation letter to your current employer notifying them of your job change. The resignation letter should typically include the date your resignation will go into effect as well as some type of statement to thank them for the experience acquired during your employment with them. It is preferred that the resignation be given at a minimum of two weeks prior to beginning your new position, but some companies require more advanced notice.
